The song served as the album's second single on July 9, 2012, through Arista Nashville. Hein: Noel has the keys to a sustainable future, and is willing to share with those who will listen." Blown Away" is a song by American recording artist Carrie Underwood, taken from her fourth studio album of the same name (2012). People need to reconnect with family, community, and nature. It makes it better for all of us and Mother Earth. Noel: We just want to share our knowledge. It was amazing to share that with the local community. Hein: This song had a deeper level of meaning, probably the deepest I’ve ever had in a song before. We did a smoking ceremony for healing, and every person came down and went through the smoke to reconnect with Mother Nature. We were sitting in the middle of a songline connecting us back to Balgan (Pigeon House Mountain). Noel: It was absolutely fantastic! We welcomed everyone to Country. Tell us about celebrating the song’s release at Barn on the Ridge. The answers are all around us, even in the weather. Noel: The song is about understanding what’s been given to you, understanding nature. Is it the one who’s paid big bucks to read off a script? Or is it the one who feels into nature, the forest, the wind, the water, and the animals? Hein: That’s the deep question behind the song. The birds tell us what the weather is doing. We should be looking outside at the stars, listening to the birds. The main thing for me was that people started to take notice of ancient wisdom. Noel: I thought it was an incredible opportunity to put forward some advice on a cultural basis. What motivated you to get involved, Noel? Noel invites the four winds to rise in his Indigenous Dhurga language at the song’s beginning, and he plays the Didgeridoo within the piece. Soon after that discussion, he came into the studio and an entirely new section of the song was born. Then I talked to Noel, and he became this other character who can also be The Weatherman. Initially, the idea was a metaphor for this weather guy on the TV who everyone just believes. Hein: His input brought new meaning to the concept of The Weatherman. It was a massive moment when he said he felt the song’ s message. It was all so magical! Anyway, in late 2022 I felt the urge to show him the song. He took us fishing once on Meroo Lake on a raft he’ d built. After that, we’ d spend time with him at his property. Hein: I’ ve known Noel since my brother Tim and I did one of his courses as teenagers. How did the collaboration between you two come about? It’s about connecting with nature, family, and the people around you. The song is an ode to coming back to right here, right now. I was feeling the madness in the world, and it was all so intense! The only thing that felt steady and secure was literally taking a walk on the beach. Hein: It started during the lockdown in July 2021. What was the earliest inspiration for The Weatherman? The Weatherman is a combination of all its contributors, and we spoke to Hein and Noel about the creative experience. Ambient background noise collected from the Budawang Ranges also contributed to the final piece, and the song was recorded locally at Studio 5 in King’s Point. Then, a South Coast Grant to assist the region in processing the pandemic and last year’s rain events, culminated in various community members lending their voices to the record. The emotive and captivating track questions a societal disconnect from nature, alongside a lack of understanding for those who hold the wisdom of thousands of years prior.Īfter initially writing The Weatherman in 2021, Hein felt compelled to introduce the track to Noel, whose collaboration added a profound, new dimension. Inspired by La Niña downpours, a long-term mentorship with Yuin elder Uncle Noel Butler, and a mid-pandemic writing session, Hein Cooper has released his latest song, The Weatherman.
